Media + Ministry

My Experience
Enjoy this fun little sneak peak of my work experience with Houston's First Baptist Church Student Ministry.
It was not until college that I realized that I had been involved in transmedia for my whole life. Transmedia is the use of three or more media platforms to tell a story. The average church service in America today is done through the use of Transmedia.
I grew up as a pastor's kid, so I knew the ins and outs of the planning of a service, and I was always in the church playing around with media equipment. I remember when I was in high school and my church purchased its first live streaming software and equipment. I loved playing around with the new equipment and learning the ways of sharing the church service with the world. I was also employed by First Baptist Porter to produce weekly announcement videos for a few months, which really polished up my filming, editing, and creative story-telling skills.
As a freshman in college, I got involved with Houston's First Baptist Church and their college ministry. I quickly made connections and started helping out with media at the church. Coming from a much smaller church into a mega church was a huge but very beneficial change. I was able to be a part of the video team for some church-wide interview videos as well as shadow the director for Sunday morning worship. Since then, I have worked on staff as an intern for both the student ministry and college ministry.
I was a summer intern with the student ministry, the HUB, for two years at Houston's First (summer 2016 and 2017). My job was to plan events, interact with the students, and even incorporate more professional media into the ministry. Summers with the HUB lead up to one large student camp in a condo on the beach in Panama City Beach, Florida. My role there was to lead a group of about six students and run ProPresenter for the worship time. Both years, the worship was incredible, and I felt incredibly blessed to play a role in the production. This was my first taste of real professional live production and I really matured as a creative professional through those two years.
At the beginning of Summer 2017 I was hired as an intern in the college ministry as well, and I currently still have this position. My role here is to plan the college events and meet up with college students. Recently I have been improving our social media presence and creating occasional promotional videos. I am currently working on a campaign to reach college students through social media on college campuses. Part of the campaign is to create testimony videos and professional pictures from every major event.
